The Help by Kathryn Stockett : a story of black maids who raise white children in Jackson, Mississippi,1962.A fascinating read about people and their prejudices and hypocrisy. It is heartbreaking and funny too. Wonderful strong, brave characters and unlikely friendships are formed between women courageous enough to reveal the truth.

One day by David Nicholls this book follows every 15th July from 1988 to near present day in the lives oftwo characters; Emma and Dexter, and their relationship with each other and others. It is very easy to read . Emma is an intelligent, charming and funny woman, Dexter the handsome, spoilt, arrogant man who has had it all but can’t cope with anything, however his flaws make him human and likable. It is being made into a film with Ann Hathaway, should be very entertaining.
